About
South Texas College Youth Camps offer hands-on activities such as advanced welding techniques, arc control, welding speed, angle positioning, and basic welding skills, along with welding lab safety and introductory CNC machine operations. Campers can work on electronics and programming projects with Arduino microcontrollers, design and build interactive circuits, create light displays and simple robots, and take part in construction skills like measuring, cutting, leveling, assembling, and completing small-scale construction projects. Additional activities include seeing the inside of an animal, viewing cells under a microscope, seeing plants grow in different environments, growing bacteria, learning biological research techniques, viewing microorganisms, extracting DNA, preparing piping bags, mixing and coloring frosting, using a variety of decorating tips and techniques, creating and decorating cookies and cupcakes, learning fundamental cybersecurity concepts and online safety practices, identifying and protecting against common digital threats through interactive and team-based cybersecurity challenges, and learning drone piloting essentials such as flight controls, safety protocols, regulatory requirements, maneuvering, and troubleshooting drones.

• Schedule: Advanced: Welding The Future runs July 27–31 from 8 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Arduino Innovators sessions run August 3–6 and August 10–13 from 9 a.m.–2 p.m., Cupcake and Cookie Decorating is a 12-hour camp, and Biotechnology Camp is a one-week biology technique crash course.
• Price: Cupcake and Cookie Decorating costs $95 per student; Advanced: Welding The Future, Arduino Innovators, Biology Explorers, Biotechnology Camp, Craft Master Builder, Cyberpatriot, Drone Discovery Camp, and Exploring the World of Welding are free and grant funded.
Founded in 1993, South Texas College offers more than 131 degree and certificate options and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate and associate degrees. Since 2000, its Dual Credit Programs have served 150,000 high school students at 70 high school partners, saving families over $464 million in tuition. One student shared, “The people honestly make STC a great place. When you're surrounded by good people, you really start to love it here.” Youth STEM Program eligibility requires students to have progressed to grade six, not yet graduated from grade twelve, and have a valid Social Security Number and U.S. citizenship, and some Youth STEM Grant camps require that students be TANF eligible or meet TANF criteria. Several Youth STEM camps have maximum capacity limits per session ranging from 10 to 24 participants, and some require completion of a Youth STEM Grant Eligibility Form and copies of the student's Social Security card and U.S. passport or birth certificate for verification, while Biotechnology Camp requires participants to bring a white lab coat.
