Bovay Scout Ranch Camping Programs

Bovay Scout Ranch Camping Programs include activities such as a water park, slingshots, a Cub Scout shooting range, fishing, boating, swimming, primitive camping, hiking on the Lone Star Trail, zip lining, high and low ropes courses, climbing, ATV riding, SCUBA, paddleboarding, and STEM-based activities. Some programs feature range and target activities, a weekend campout called Adventure Camp with program activities and meals in an air-conditioned dining facility, and a Fishing Derby where Cub Scouts can catch fish whether they are seasoned anglers or have never cast a line. Additional offerings include a trip to NASA with a behind-the-scenes tour and meeting an astronaut, the Train Like an Astronaut Program at the Williams Pool with underwater tests and controlling SeaRay Robotics, and the Aquatics Summit where participants can attend two merit badge classes and/or try climbing and paddleboarding, and where Sea Scouts and Venturers can participate in survivor-inspired adventures.

Bovay Scout Ranch Camping Programs take place at a camp founded in 2001 and named after its founders, Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Bovay Jr. The ranch offers Adventure Camp as a weekend campout for Cub Scouts and their families, Family Camping for packs and Webelos dens that plan their own activities and cook their own food with access to campsites, restrooms, and showers, and the Webelos & Arrow of Light Quest campout for 4th and 5th-graders to earn advancement, learn Scout skills, and be introduced to outdoor adventures of Scouts BSA. Mission Lone Star is the council’s high adventure program for older Scouts ages 13 and up, and the ATV program is for Scouts ages 14 and up, with participants receiving safety instruction vetted by a company with 60 years of industry expertise.

The Sam Houston Area Council, which operates these programs, serves approximately 28,000 youth in 16 counties in Southeast Texas through the service and leadership of about 10,000 adult volunteers. The Silver Beaver Award, associated with the council, is the highest recognition a local council can bestow on a volunteer. The lodge leadership team includes youth leaders such as Lodge Chief Wren H., Lodge Vice Chief of Program Henry O., Lodge Vice Chief of Service Gavin W., Lodge Vice Chief of Inductions Peyton G., Lodge Vice Chief of Chapter Operations CJ M., Lodge Vice Chief of Administration Zoey S., and area chiefs Preston H., Charlie P., Trey R., and Luke P., along with adult advisers including Lodge Adviser Mike Provencher and Professional Staff Adviser Ryan McMillian, among others.
