The Art Centre Theatre's stated objectives include presenting recurring seasons of theatrical and artistic works, producing a range of dramatic, comedic, musical, traditional, local, and experimental works at low cost to the public, offering entertaining and educational children's programming during school days, evenings, and weekends, satisfying the needs of special audiences, and presenting works that challenge conventional ideals and commonly accepted mores. As a community, the theatre provides an accessible environment for artists of all interest and experience and states that people of all age, race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender identity have the right to express themselves in a safe, non-judgmental environment. ACT seeks performers of all race, age, performance level, and gender identity, and last year over 700 children were served in its facility. ACT now offers e-gift cards, KERA members receive a two-for-one discount at the door for non-special event shows, and productions are planned a year in advance.
Parent and audience feedback includes comments that the productions in this community theatre are enjoyable and that the cast and crew do a great job. Audience members have highlighted specific shows such as Anastasia, noting the acting, ballet dancers, and singing, and have described the atmosphere as inviting with decor that supports imagination, along with good seating and snacks from the commissary.
