• Ages: 4 months–12 years old
The Little Gym was founded by Robin Wes, who opened the first location in 1976 in Bellevue, Washington. Over forty-five years later, children attend The Little Gym at more than 300 locations worldwide. The program uses a Three-Dimensional Learning philosophy that includes Get Moving (developing motor skills, strength, balance, flexibility, agility and coordination through gymnastics), Citizen Kid (promoting sharing, teamwork, cooperation and leadership), and Brain Boost (nurturing creativity, imagination, concentration and decision-making). The mission of The Little Gym states that its gyms are safe spaces for children and parents to explore gymnastics and more, that children build the confidence and skills needed at each stage of childhood, that parents enjoy a supportive and positive community, and that everyone has “serious fun.” The Little Gym describes its programs as having a positive, non-competitive spirit and supporting physical, social, and emotional growth, and it offers membership packages with rewards. Camps are described as educational and fun, birthday parties are described as “simply AWESOME,” and Parent Survival Night is described as giving parents a break. The Little Gym notes that it has gyms across the globe and describes them as safe spaces for children and parents to explore gymnastics and more.
Through its philanthropic and sustainability program, The Little Gym Big Hearts, The Little Gym states that it is dedicated to improving the lives of children around the world and in local communities, looking for simple and effective ways to positively impact communities so that children have a safe and healthy place to live and grow.
Parent testimonials describe The Little Gym as “F U N !!!” (charlie young), praise the “birds class” and say that every teacher is kind and loving and that a child is learning many skills and social time (Susan C), and describe it as a great place for walking babies to toddlers to learn basics of gymnastics and body control (David Felt).
