Specialty camps are offered at CHASCO, Hutto, Twin Lakes, and Waco, including half-day camps such as Art Lab, eSports, Cooking, Basketball, Soccer, Cake Decorating, Gymnastics, and Kreative Kids. Preschool at the Y includes enrichments such as swimming, gymnastics, and soccer, and provides meals and snacks.
The Orr Family Adventure Course, also called the Sky Trail at Twin Lakes Family YMCA, is a ropes and climbing adventure course with platforms, bridges, and balance elements, where participants wear full-body harnesses and are connected to a continuous belay system. The Y conducts regular sex offender screenings on all members, participants, and guests. The YMCA of Central Texas’ Licensed Child Care Department is the largest provider of child care in Williamson County. The Y is accessible to all people and offers financial assistance for memberships, and is guided by core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
The YMCA of Central Texas states its mission as putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The history of the YMCA of Central Texas began during the 1970s, with a United Way “Youth Contingency Fund” created in 1976. In 1987, the Texas Baptist Children’s Home donated building space on Mays Street in Round Rock, and by 1990 the Y leased an entire shopping center there before purchasing it in 1992. The Y adopted a metropolitan structure in 1994 and later expanded programs to Taylor in 1998. The overall Y organization began over 150 years ago as the “Young Men’s Christian Association,” and for nearly 160 years the Y has been listening and responding to communities.
