The YMCA of Central Texas’ Licensed Child Care Department provides preschool for infants through 5 years and afterschool programs for grades K–5th. Preschool amenities include swimming, gymnastics, soccer, an infant and toddler nursery, meals and snacks provided, newly renovated classrooms, one indoor playground, and two outdoor playgrounds. The organization’s Licensed Child Care Department is the largest provider of child care in Williamson County, and it is part of the Y, which is described as the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The mission of the YMCA of Central Texas is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, and it is guided by core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.

The YMCA of Central Texas’ history in the area dates back to the 1970s, including the creation of a United Way Youth Contingency Fund in 1976 and the donation of building space on Mays Street in Round Rock in 1987. The Y adopted a metropolitan structure in 1994 and assumed management of Twin Lakes Park, and the Hill Country Family YMCA opened in 1997, with programs later expanding to Taylor in 1998. The broader Y organization was born over 150 years ago and has been listening and responding to communities for nearly 160 years.

The YMCA of Central Texas’ Licensed Child Care Department conducts afterschool programs supported by partnerships with school districts and community businesses, and it established its first school-based afterschool program in 1989 with Round Rock ISD. The Y states that it is committed to a diverse and inclusive environment where all are welcome and have access to programs and services, and it offers financial assistance so individuals and families who cannot afford membership can still access programs. The Y conducts regular sex offender screenings on all members, participants, and guests. The organization lists leadership roles that include a Vice President of Youth Development, district and associate executive directors, a Youth Development Senior Business Manager, and child development center directors and an interim director.
