The YMCA of Greater San Antonio states that its mission is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. For 150 years, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio has been listening and responding to the community’s most critical social needs. The organization has been recognized as a destination for summer day camp, swimming, and fitness activities and has state-of-the-art fitness facilities, sports complexes, early learning centers, and school-age after-school programs, along with youth sports, swim lessons, and mental health support. It was selected as an Impact San Antonio 2023 Grant Award Finalist in the Health and Wellness category. Community involvement includes collaborations with residents to tackle community needs, major donations and grants supporting youth programs and civic engagement, a new immersive children’s environment in collaboration with The DoSeum, and an ultra-accessible fitness center developed with Morgan’s.
Parent and member feedback includes comments that staff are friendly and helpful, that coaches in youth sports engage with kids and support skill improvement and friendship, and that aquatics programming has supported children in progressing from basic swimming ability to competitive swim teams.
