• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Three ten-week sessions (Fall, Winter, Spring) with classes held once a week for two hours over ten consecutive weeks

Since its founding in 1980, Christian Youth Theater has grown to be the largest youth theater program in the nation, with branches across the country training thousands of students a year. Christian Youth Theater Houston offers after-school theater arts training for students ages 5–18 and classes for students ages 4–18 throughout the school year, along with a Summer session that includes camps, workshops, and performance opportunities. Each session culminates in a high-energy showcase to demonstrate the skills students have learned, and chapters produce one Broadway-style musical each Fall, Winter, and Spring session. Enrollment in classes provides students ages 8–18 the opportunity to audition for the current production, and shows are always appropriate for the entire family.

Instructors are professionals qualified in teaching and/or performing who understand the organization’s mission statement, values, objectives, and goals. Christian Youth Theater’s mission statement is that it develops character and creativity through quality theater arts training that brings families and communities together while reflecting Jesus. Programs are open to all, regardless of background, and the organization describes its environment as Christ-centered and reflecting a biblical worldview, with a focus on character over competition, people over programs, service over spotlight, and excellence over ego. Class sizes are small and include supervision both inside and outside the classroom.

Christian Youth Theater is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization funded primarily through tuition, ticket sales, and outside contributions. CYT Houston lists The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce and Greater Conroe Arts Alliance with more information links, and CYT’s Partnership Program seeks like-minded business partners to support youth development and community engagement through character-building, creativity, and teamwork. The organization states that it is committed to maintaining a community free of harassment, misconduct, or abuse of any kind, and its Safety Scene program is a CYT National initiative that goes beyond background checks to prevent, detect, and respond to physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse in CYT programming.

Parent and student testimonials describe CYT’s impact on participants. One parent, Candi Smith, credits CYT with contributing to her child’s Broadway experience and notes the family, love, and support for the cast. Former participant Kaylin Miller cites life skills such as public speaking, confidence, and a love of community service. Student Ella StMichel describes CYT as a second home and expresses gratitude for having a place to share a love of Christ and the arts.
