Triple Motion Dance offers dance instruction that includes both performance dance and competition dance. The program uses a combination of individual and group instruction, with exposure to multiple dance styles and performance opportunities for students. The studio is accepting new students and focuses on improving fitness and flexibility for students through its curriculum.
Sonya Hardy and Shawnel Herbst are the instructors and founders of Triple Motion Dance. The leadership team also includes Bleu Morris (Office Manager), Hollind Hardy (Instructor), Madi Dean (Choreographer), Veronica France (Instructor), Madison Galer (Instructor), and Milani Kinkade (Instructor), with alumni and guest teachers Mikala Spinelli, Jacy Barney, and Danielle Ihle. The mission of Triple Motion Dance states that it assists students in discovering their passion for music, movement, and dance, with a focus on individual growth and developing confidence beyond the dance floor in a family-centered environment. The mission also states that the program combines individual and group instruction, emphasizes practice and technique, exposes students to multiple dance styles, and includes performance opportunities, while challenging students to meet and exceed expectations, take risks, value bonds among teammates, and learn about themselves through the journey.
In 1994, Sonya and Shawnel opened their first dance studio, SS Dance Express, and in 2005 they merged with two of their instructors to open Triple Threat Performing Arts. In 2009, both sisters moved to the Fort Worth area, and they are opening Triple Motion Dance in Watauga, Texas. Triple Threat Performing Arts has over 400 students. Sonya and Shawnel grew up dancing in Livermore, California, and previously operated SS Dance Express and Triple Threat Performing Arts there, and they have been involved in community theater in the Bay Area and local community theater companies. Both have children who attend schools in Keller Independent School District (KISD).
The staff includes instructors and guest teachers with extensive professional dance and teaching backgrounds. Jacy Rae Barney is certified by United Spirit Association in dance technique and has a diploma in performing arts, represented the United States in Barcelona, Spain as a member of the American dance company winning world titles, won two college dance team titles that aired on ESPN, coached at the Anaheim Angels stadium for the NCIF championships, and was head coach of the Edison High School Song Team. She was crowned national “Miss Dance USA,” received Dance Spirit Magazine’s “Future Star of the Year Award,” is signed with MSA agency in Hollywood, danced for the Los Angeles Clippers, and was most recently a member of the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blue. Channing Olson is signed with Movement Talent Agency LA, is part of IMMABEAST dance company under Willdabeast Adams and ASDS with Kevin Harris, has been dancing for 16 years, has been teaching for 4 years at multiple studios in Dallas, across Texas, and other states, and has performed at NFL and NBA stadiums. Nellie Whitmire has extensive professional dance training in Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Drill Team, and Clogging, attended UNT as a dance major, was a UNT Dancer for two years, was a member in the Mosaic Dance Project, was cast as a dancer in the ABC Family movie “She Gets What She Wants,” and has won several choreography and entertainment awards at local and national level competitions for her dance groups. Sonya was co-owner of SS Dance Express for 11 years and Triple Threat Performing Arts for seven years, was the dance instructor at the Keller Music and Dance Preschool in Keller, and has been teaching for over 20 years, and her dancers and choreography have won numerous overall scores and top choreography awards at state and national competitions. Shawnel is co-owner of the dance studio Triple Threat Performing Arts in California, was a member of the San Francisco 49er “Gold Rush” cheerleaders for six years, has performed internationally and with various musical acts, toured overseas with the USO, been involved in community theater for 20 years, co-directed and choreographed multiple shows, appeared in the feature film “Flubber,” and judged regionally and nationally for Hall of Fame Dance Challenge and Kids Artistic Revue.
According to the program’s documented credentials and awards, Triple Threat Performing Arts has over 400 students, and the dedication of Shawnel and her students has led them to many awards and accomplishments nationally. Many of Shawnel’s students have performed on award-winning college, NFL, NBA, and AFL dance teams, Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships, Disneyland and California Adventure, “So You Think You Can Dance,” “The Glee Project,” “Glee,” the movies “Easy A,” “High School Musical 3,” and “A Better Life,” recurring roles on “All My Children,” and touring casts of “Wicked” and “Cats.” Many of Sonya’s dancers have continued their dance careers on college dance teams, MTV Video Awards, Disney’s “High School Musical 3,” professional sports teams (NFL, NBA, AFL), cruise ships, Disneyland, “So You Think You Can Dance,” and Broadway touring companies of “Cats,” “Wicked,” and “Chicago.” Jacy Barney’s documented achievements include world titles as a member of the American dance company, two college dance team titles that aired on ESPN, the national “Miss Dance USA” title, and Dance Spirit Magazine’s “Future Star of the Year Award.”
