• Ages: 0–6 years old

After almost 15 years of arts education programming and original performances for children ages 0–6, Arts on the Horizon will be closing on December 31, 2025. Arts on the Horizon was founded as a professional, non-profit theatre company with a specific focus on providing performances and education programs for young people ages 0–6 and their families. The organization has created 27 world premiere productions for children ages 0–6 and their families and is led by its founder, Michelle.

Arts on the Horizon produces nonverbal productions that incorporate elements connected to various child developmental milestones and intentionally creates a sensory-rich environment with vibrant imagery, music, sound effects, movement, tactile moments, and repetitive physical movement in storytelling. Its productions include stories that show cooperation and creativity, empathy among characters, conflict resolution through teamwork, and the excitement of exploring new places and activities. Each arts education program focuses on social emotional learning, including cooperation, understanding and empathy for others, problem solving skills, and self-esteem, and the program states that it is not in the business to produce better actors but to help nurture better human beings.

Arts on the Horizon states that it aims to produce high-quality, joyful, innovative productions for very young children and their families, focus on clear and accessible storytelling, be a safe, creative place for families to gather and children to play, develop and foster innovative work for very young children as a leader in the Theatre for the Very Young community, and create inclusive and accessible programs that are affordable for families. The organization has partnered with schools in Northern Virginia, community centers, performing arts centers, theater companies, universities, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations across the DC metro area to introduce more young people to theatre.
