Greensville/Emporia 4-H Programs offers 4-H Shooting Sports Clubs where participants take part in shooting sports activities. The program includes firearm safety, responsible handling and use of firearms, and specific disciplines such as archery, shotgun, rifle, and pistol. It also includes hunting and outdoor skills as part of the shooting project.
Virginia Cooperative Extension, which includes this program, is a partnership of Virginia Tech, Virginia State University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and local governments. 4-H Shooting Sports Clubs are founded on the principles of Positive Youth Development, with a stated goal focused on the youth first so they feel welcome in the program, grow in leadership independence, are inspired to be generous in service to others, and master skills in the shooting project. USDA and USDA-funded programs connected to this partnership are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, marital status, family/parental status, income derived from a public assistance program, political beliefs, or retaliating for prior civil rights activity, with the note that not all bases apply to all programs.
