About

Living Earth School Nature-Based Programs offers summer camps, weekly homeschool groups, weekend workshops, and expeditions that focus on immersive nature-based education. Participants can join specific hands-on workshops such as the Bow Making Workshop, Pack Basket Workshop, Leatherworking Workshop, and Blade Workshop. Programs are offered for children, teens, and adults and draw from both ancient and modern wisdom in a nature-based curriculum that includes naturalist skills, survival skills, animal tracking, edible and medicinal plants, and understanding the language of birds, using a coyote mentoring approach and running without digital diversions or extraneous activities.

Living Earth School Nature-Based Programs has been offering immersive nature-based education programs in central Virginia since 2002. The organization is a nonprofit dedicated to renewing connections with the earth, caring for the earth, and building healthy relationships with nature, self, and community. It is located on the homeland of the Monacan people, now central Virginia, part of the James River watershed, and is committed to a culture of inclusivity and connectedness, addressing barriers to nature access and seeking to create a “village community” where everyone feels safe and welcomed. Living Earth School is a proud partner of 1% for the Planet.

One homeschool student shared that at Living Earth School “everyone wants to be there.” A parent, Caroline P., described it as an “incredible camp” where her son “feels at home in nature” and is “genuinely cared for and inspired by the great staff,” and noted that he “wants to live off the land,” “sees greater possibilities,” and “cares more about connection to people than technology.”
