The mission of the Y is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas has been awarded Praesidium Accreditation®, which is described as the highest honor for child abuse prevention practices by Praesidium. When someone gives to the Y, that support goes to programs and services that help kids succeed, prevent drowning, prepare teens for life and help people grow healthier in spirit, mind, and body. The YMCA states that it makes membership, programs, services, and facilities available regardless of a family or individual’s ability to pay the standard membership and program fees.
