About
TheStudio for Dance & the Arts offers classes in ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, tap, hip hop, musical theater, and acrobatics. The school serves over 200 students and includes a pre-professional company with 40 members. Advanced and intermediate students at TheStudio are eligible to audition for The Rockbridge Ballet.
The Rockbridge Ballet was formed in 1984 under the sponsorship of Fine Arts in Rockbridge (FAIR), incorporated as an independent non-profit in Virginia in December 2003, and received federal 501(c)(3) status in November 2005. The Rockbridge Ballet is a non-profit community dance organization whose stated mission is to provide a nurturing and creative environment for students and to promote the arts throughout the region. Jessica Pyatt Martin was named Artistic Director in 2009. Company dancers are often accepted to programs including the Joffrey Ballet School, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Nashville Ballet, and the Bates Young Dancer Program, and graduates attend collegiate dance programs at schools such as the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, George Mason, Goucher, James Madison University, and Temple University. Over 20% of The Rockbridge Ballet members become dance professionals or members of community dance groups as adults.
