Camp Easterseals Virginia offers activities such as canoeing, zipline, swimming, hiking in the woods, and stargazing. Campers take part in Arts & Crafts, campfires and s’mores, climbing the rock wall, horseback riding, sports and games, nature activities, dances, talent shows, bowling, and splashing in the pool. The program also includes a music group, storytime, and Culinary Connections, which focuses on culinary techniques, nutritional literacy, and communication and coping skills.

Camp Easterseals Virginia is an overnight camp designed for children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, with an accessible camp facility and activities adapted to meet the needs of each camper so everyone can participate fully and safely. The camp offers summer camp sessions, family camp, and weekend respites throughout the year, with tailored sessions for kids ages 8–21, young adults ages 18–30, and adults ages 18 and older. Eligibility requirements include the ability to control harmful behaviors, sleep or sit quietly at night, live in a group setting, accept personal care from trained Camp Counselors, participate in indoor and outdoor activities, not be medically fragile, and either eat meals traditionally found in a camp setting or bring their own food.

Camp Easterseals Virginia has trained staff who provide personal care as Camp Counselors and adapt all activities to meet the needs of each camper. The Camp Director, Amber, has been part of Camp Easterseals Virginia since 2014, previously serving as a counselor, cabin leader, and nurse before becoming Camp Director. Easterseals PORT Health employs Arlene, MSW, LCSWA, as an Intake Coordinator for mental and behavioral health services, and Alison as an ESPH Outpatient Therapist and Clinical Team Lead.

Camp Easterseals Virginia is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). Easterseals PORT Health is accredited by CQL (The Council on Quality and Leadership) and has received awards including GOLD for Raleigh’s Best Nonprofit Organization and Best Mental Health Organization, the Compassion in Action Award, and the Children and Families Advocate Award for its Lead Family Navigator, Holly. Easterseals PORT Health is a member of the Collaborative Health Network and is one of 55 affiliates of the national United Cerebral Palsy organization.

The mission of Camp Easterseals Virginia states that every camper deserves to experience the joy of summer camp, and Easterseals PORT Health’s purpose is to help people with disabilities, mental health and/or substance use challenges, their families, and employees embrace their potential, access opportunities, build resilience, and thrive. Additional programs connected with Easterseals PORT Health include the sensABLE Snacks food truck as a learning lab for employment skills, Busy Beats Music Group for early intervention through music, Culinary Connections as an immersive kitchen experience, and Family Peer Support for families, parents, and caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
