About

Headfirst Summer Camps offers multiple program types, including Jr. Day Camp, Day Camp, Multi-Sport I, Multi-Sport II, Multi-Sport III, Innovators, Inc, Sprouting Scientists, D.C. United Summer Camps, Nationals Baseball Camps, and Nationals Softball Camps. The camps include daily swim or water play at most locations and use a “Spot • Create • Celebrate” approach, where staff spot when a camper is ready, create the opportunity, and celebrate the breakthrough. Headfirst Summer Camps focuses on creating specific “Headfirst Moments,” such as a camper jumping into the pool for the first time, raising their hand, or leading a team huddle.

• Ages: 3–13 years old

Headfirst Summer Camps has been operating for 30 years. The mission of Headfirst Summer Camps is to create joyful, intentionally designed experiences that help children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence. Every activity is designed to build confidence, independence, and skill, and programs are intentionally designed for each age group so kids feel confident, capable, and supported. The camps emphasize community and belonging so campers feel welcomed, included, and part of a supportive community from day one, and they create intentional experiences where kids feel seen, known, and celebrated so they are encouraged to try new things and take safe risks.

Headfirst Summer Camps partners with campus partners across DC, Maryland, and Virginia, including St. Albans School & National Cathedral School, Mater Dei School, Flint Hill School, and St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School.

Parent feedback includes comments from a Junior Day Camp parent in Oakton, VA, who shared that their daughter wakes up excited to go to Jr. Day Camp, has made friends, tried new things, and comes home “grinning from ear to ear,” calling it the “best summer ever.” A Multi-Sport parent in Cathedral Heights, DC, reported that their daughter was “absolutely thrilled” with the activities and how fun and engaging the counselors and campers are, and that she chose to change her end-of-summer plans to stay. Another parent, with children in Junior Day and Innovators, Inc. camps in Cathedral Heights and Palisades, DC, described being a four-time returning Headfirst family, with both kids engaged and excited about their camp experiences and activities, and noted being consistently impressed by the creativity behind the camp themes and the care and attention given to each child, saying they are “big fans of Headfirst.”
