Wheatland Equestrian is led by founders Mark and Muriel Forrest, with Muriel Forrest serving as Executive Director. Muriel is a USEF Silver Para-Dressage Coach. Wheatland Equestrian operates under the Faith & Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1999. The program was founded on lived experience, deep compassion, and a belief in the healing power of horses, with a stated commitment to faith, family, and service.
Wheatland Equestrian is recognized as a USEF Para-Dressage Center of Excellence and is identified as a USEF Center of Excellence for International Para Dressage. The farm hosted the 2018 USEF Para-Dressage Team Observation Event for the World Equestrian Games. The program uses an intentionally inclusive model that brings able-bodied and disabled riders together within one equestrian center and maintains an exceptional herd of school horses ranging from First Level through Grand Prix. Facilities include an FEI-quality outdoor competition arena, an ADA-compliant indoor arena, a fully accessible barn with an automated mounting lift for wheelchair-dependent athletes, and miles of scenic trails, supported by a large corps of trained volunteers. Wheatland Equestrian serves students from across Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC, and serves entire families, including children with disabilities, their siblings, and the wider community together. A new Upperville campus at Belle Grey Farm is planned to assume full operational responsibility beginning in January 2026.
