Blue Sky Fund is a youth development non-profit that focuses on outdoor education for Richmond area youth. Its programming has evolved into three core programs that offer a continuum of nature-based activities and outdoor education and adventure for over 2,000 students each school year. Each year, participants spend over 40,000 hours outside, visiting more than 50 green spaces across these programs.

Blue Sky Fund is on a mission to provide transformational experiences for Richmond area youth through outdoor education and to advance equity in the outdoors by developing diverse groups of environmental stewards and leaders in the community. The organization was born out of a passion to connect children from under-resourced areas to the experience of summer camp, and from 2003–2006 it provided scholarships for campers. In 2007, the focus shifted to structuring the organization and developing sustainable operations, which led to incorporating Blue Sky as a non-profit organization, and over the next sixteen years its programming developed into three core programs. Blue Sky Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is staffed by a team of outdoor enthusiasts, environmental educators, and nonprofit professionals.
Parent and student feedback includes comments such as a 3rd grader from Fairfield Court Explorers saying, “This is the best day ever! I don’t want to leave!” A Richmond Public Schools teacher, Kat Shearer, shared that “Blue Sky is awesome and their programs are so impactful! The activities are so much fun and provide an experience that I simply can't while inside the four walls of my classroom.” A 6th grade participant, Kirsten, said, “Despite being an inside person, Blue Sky has helped me explore the adventurous side of myself & helped me think outside my comfort zone.”
