Since 1854, the YMCA of Greater Richmond has strengthened individuals, families, and communities across 16 locations. The organization states its mission as “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.” It operates as a non-profit organization open to all people and committed to social responsibility, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and notes that at the YMCA, everyone belongs.

Members receive unlimited access to all 16 locations across the RVA region and access to YMCAs across the country as part of the Nationwide Program. The YMCA of Greater Richmond cites a commitment to the highest ethical standards, transparency in financial matters, and stewardship of resources, and notes that it has been responding to the changing needs of the metropolitan area for over 160 years. A Strategic Plan 2025 guides its programs and services in Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
