Since opening in August 2019, the Innovation Lab Programs & Initiatives has operated as an instructional hub for STEM learning driven by team building and collaboration. It is part of the Innovation Lab at the ODU Center for Educational Innovation and Opportunity, which is a community outreach facility of Old Dominion University. The program focuses on having students and individuals of all ages, abilities, and disciplines learn by designing creative solutions to real-world challenges. The Innovation Lab is relocating from the Brooks Crossing building in Newport News’ Southeast Community, adjacent to Downtown, to the ODU Peninsula Center in June 2025. The program states that it has a wide variety of machines and resources available to the public and that staff will teach participants how to use them.
