About
Play-Well TEKnologies Enrichment Programs offers LEGO-inspired engineering classes for kids through activities such as the Engineering with LEGO enrichment program, Engineering with LEGO class, and Play-Well Engineering class. Core programs for elementary students include Adventures in STEM and STEM Explorations, and the program also offers Summer Camps, After School and Homeschool Classes, Birthday Parties, and Play-Well At-Home Videos. Students use tens of thousands of LEGO pieces in hands-on, minds-on learning to explore concepts in physics, architecture, and mechanical and structural engineering, working individually, in teams, and as a group throughout multi-session courses for elementary or middle school students.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Classes typically meet once per week before or after school for an entire quarter (Fall/Winter/Spring), and session duration is generally 90 minutes.
• Price: Pricing varies based on area, course being offered, number of sessions, etc.
According to the mission statement, Play-Well TEKnologies aims to offer an environment where students can create without fear of mistakes, explore fundamental STEM concepts through play, and express their creativity in new ways. All materials for the course are provided each week, and there is no “take away” LEGO that goes home with the child after camp. Instructors have varied careers and educational backgrounds, including mechanical engineering, architecture, biology, art, geology, education, and civil engineering. The leadership team includes President Tim Bowen, Vice President of Administration and Human Resources Meredith Bowen, Vice President of Operations Jennifer Gaona, and Regional Managers Mike Spee, Jessica Wall, and Michael Beddall. These programs are not authorized, sponsored or endorsed by the LEGO Group.
Parent feedback includes comments that the Play-Well Engineering class “has provided my son with even more creative ‘know-how’ to build with more confidence and ingenuity” and that “regardless of who the instructor is, the program stays strong.” One parent noted that their child built motorized cars, a double belt and double pulley driven gondola, a belt and pulley driven escalator, and a facsimile of an egg beater after attending class. Other parents describe instructors as “well-organized and fun,” “SO cool with the kids,” and “a 5-star instructor,” and report that their children “had a blast” and “cannot wait to attend each week.”
