Project GROWS first took root in 2010, and its educational farm broke ground in 2012. Its mission is to grow a healthy community by connecting all people to nutritious foods. Project GROWS was founded when nine local human service agencies came together to look at health challenges in the community, and it now connects schools with producers, hosts weekly farmers markets, sells food through mobile farmers markets, and offers affordable food markets and extensive food education programs. The farm uses organic practices to grow over 200,000 servings of food each year on a 10 acre farm in Verona, Virginia, and combines educational spaces with commercial production equipment to provide food to people of all ages.
The leadership and staff team includes Clara Metzler (Executive Director), Megan Marshall (Director of Programs & Strategic Impact), Reh Franklin (Interim Farm Manager), Bridgett Brunea (Office Manager), James Paetkau (Mobile Market Manager), Laura Haney (Education Manager), Lisa Patterson-Allen (Community Ambassador), Kayla Zook (Camp Assistant), Clarissa Burrow (Camp Assistant), Josi Henry (Camp Counselor), Evan Braun (YLA Crew Leader), Lia Dorvil (YLA- 2nd Year), Johan Montero (YLA- 1st Year), Noah Haynes (YLA- 1st Year), Camila Armadariz-Cruz (YLA- 1st Year), Saraiah Lassiter (YLA- 1st Year), Addyson Mooney (YLA- 2nd Year), Addie Parrish (Camp Counselor), and Leah Cook (YLA- 1st Year).
