Founded in 2002, Abrakadoodle has delivered visual arts programs to more than one million children around the world. Abrakadoodle brings its Academic Art Program to charter schools, private schools, and public schools, where it becomes the school’s academic art program, and also provides programs in community sites, Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley, Shepherd’s Flock Preschool, Smart Starts Day Schools, and Eastern Michigan University. The program offers expansive art lesson plans that exceed national standards for visual arts education and embraces process art, focusing on exploration of art materials and the creative process. Kids learn styles ranging from Pop Art to Pointillism and learn about classic artists such as Picasso and Rembrandt, as well as contemporary artists such as Mort Solberg and Lisa Cherkasky. Through its Artist of Distinction Program, Abrakadoodle introduces ways working artists are creative, and its art lessons build cognitive skills including concept development, problem solving, language, history, measurement, critical thinking, fine motor development, and many other skills. Abrakadoodle provides well-trained teachers, and its programs are described as fun, eye-popping art experiences.
Abrakadoodle states that its mission is “to enhance the lives of children by creating an educationally rich learning environment that ignites their imaginations and leads them to discover their own unique creativities, talents and abilities.” The program has been voted “Best Art Class to Inspire Your Child's Inner Picasso” and is named one of the 200 Top Global Franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine.
Parents and community partners share a range of feedback about Abrakadoodle. One parent, Judy Jensen, says, “Christian absolutely loves his art classes. He talks quite a bit about them and looks forward to displaying his art on the art wall at home.” Another parent, Amy Wolfe, says, “First, I love how organized and great the teachers are. …..I absolutely loved the finished product the children could take home- they were very impressive and as a parent of a child who was in the class, we hung every piece in his room.” Joel Rivera from Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley says, “The Abrakadoodle program connects with the kids. I have seen the relationships grow as the years pass, as well as the improvement of the kids artwork grow as well.” Alice Handrich from Shepherd’s Flock Preschool notes, “The children enjoy the art. It’s developmentally appropriate and the children are learning about the artist and the different mediums used by that artist. It’s always framed. Parents comment on that.” Author Dan Pink describes Abrakadoodle as “a great choice for savvy parents looking for high quality art classes that can help children develop essential right brain competencies and a true sense of creativity.” Parent Brenda Donovan says, “My kids love Abrakadoodle and for that I thank you and your staff.” Marilyn Aparicio from Smart Starts Day Schools says, “I like that they (Abrakadoodle) teach the kids a little bit of Humanities, introducing them to different artists.” Parent Karyn Fine shares that her daughter “could not wait to get to class each week and produced some amazing art projects.” Suzanne Hodges from Eastern Michigan University says, “Abrakadoodle has completely hassle-free programs, and teachers who understand the needs of my students.”
