About
A Summer At Sacred Heart (SASH) is a day camp that offers over 50 different themed camps across 7 weeks. Extended Camp before and after care is available, with early morning and afternoon coverage starting at 7 am and running until 6 pm.
• Ages: 3–13 years old
• Schedule: Over 50 themed camps offered across 7 weeks, with optional before and after care from 7 am to 6 pm
A Summer At Sacred Heart (SASH) started in 2019. The program’s stated mission is to provide an engaging and exciting atmosphere where campers can make fast friends, great memories and have a fantastic summer, and to provide an empowering environment where staff can grow in their Catholic faith while strengthening their professional skills as teachers and camp leaders. All staff go through a hiring process that includes a fingerprint and background check, a personal interview, and detailed pre-camp training, and all staff members receive a three-week paid training. When not leading camps, staff attend Daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and theological classes, and work alongside other high school and college-age instructors to build camps and serve as role models for campers. SASH notes that its camp variety is the largest in the Shenandoah Valley.
SASH lists donors and advertisers that support the program, including James Solomon, Tim and Pam McGrane of McGrane Fence, Coventry Group, the Parish Organization of Catholic Women, Mary Grundman, Gail Roberts, Frederick Morgan, Daniel L. Pratt, Ed Markel, and John and Marlene Lundberg.
