About

Girls & Boys Soccer Youth League offers recreational soccer through both a City League and a County League, with kids taking part in practices and games. The program includes city league soccer and county league soccer, with leagues available for boys and girls. U-12 and younger age divisions play on modified fields with fewer players, and U-13 and older age divisions play on a full-size field with 11 players on the field at a time.

• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Leagues start in late August with practices, and games usually start the Saturday after Labor Day weekend; County League games are played on Saturdays and possibly Sundays as well.
• Price: Close to $50 per game for a center ref.

This is a recreational program where rules and field size are modified to increase learning of the game and maximize success. Both the city and the county league soccer program are designed to provide youth a chance to play recreational soccer and offer an opportunity to improve skills in the game of soccer. The program emphasis is on teaching soccer skills, team work, and initiating lifestyle changes through activities that challenge both the body and mind. Sportsmanship, equal participation, and skill development are emphasized.

City League is coordinated in-house by APRD. The County Soccer League is similar to the City League but includes away games in other towns, with games typically played on a larger field with more players on the field. Teams playing in the County League are participating in a league facilitated by the Skagit Valley Youth Soccer Association and Washington State Youth Soccer, and this league includes away games in places such as Burlington, Sedro Woolley, Mt. Vernon/Conway, La Conner, and possibly San Juan Island.

Coaches must fill out a volunteer application form and pass a background screening, and volunteer coaches are always needed. Interested referees can earn close to $50 per game for a center ref. A team shirt is included in the City League registration fee, and a team jersey top (color purple) is included in the County League registration fee. Players need to supply their own shorts, shin guards, socks, and cleats, and baseball or football cleats are not allowed.
