About

Girls & Boys Soccer Youth League offers recreational soccer through both city league soccer and county league soccer. The program includes modified rules and field sizes to increase learning of the game and maximize success. It is described as a recreational program where youth play soccer, improve skills in the game of soccer, and take part in activities that challenge both the body and mind.

• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Leagues start in late August with practices, and games usually start the Saturday after Labor Day weekend in September, with games being played on Saturdays and possibly Sundays as well.

In the City League, all teams practice and play games in Anacortes, and it is a developmental league focusing on equal playing time and opportunities. In the City League, score is not kept and the emphasis is on having fun and not on winning and losing, and rules and expectations for teams may be changed to increase enjoyment for all. For the County League, practices and home games are in Anacortes, and away games are played in places such as Burlington, Sedro Woolley, Mt. Vernon/Conway, La Conner, and possibly San Juan Island. Teams playing in the County League are participating in a league facilitated by the Skagit Valley Youth Soccer Association and Washington State Youth Soccer.

U-12 and younger age divisions play on modified fields with fewer players on the field, and the younger the age, the smaller the field and the fewer the players on the field at a time. U-13 and older age divisions play on a full-size field with 11 players on the field at a time. Volunteer coaches are always needed, must fill out a volunteer application form, and must pass a background screening. Close to $50 per game is paid for a center referee for U-11 and older games.

For City League, a team shirt is included in the registration fee, and players supply their own shorts, shin guards, socks, and cleats, with baseball or football cleats not allowed. For County League, a purple team jersey top is included in the registration fee, and players supply their own shorts, shin guards, socks, and cleats, with baseball or football cleats not allowed.
