About
Mountain Biking Camp – Bellevue (Avid4 Adventure) focuses on mountain biking and trail riding, including riding on rolling single and double track terrain, descending and ascending trail sections, and riding narrow and winding trails. Campers practice specific biking skills such as basic bike commands, bunny hops, track stands, braking, and shifting, and they learn trail etiquette. The program also includes learning bicycle maintenance basics like helmet and bike fitting, safety checking bikes, solving gear problems, and changing flat tires.
• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday, with regular camp hours and extended care options
• Price: One Week Price $700; Early Drop Off $40; After Care $115; Bike Rental $50; Avid4 Merch prices vary
Instructors are all 18 and older, described as insatiable outdoors experts with serious safety and skills training. The leadership team is headed by David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states that every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved, how to prevent them, and how to respond if something goes wrong, and that it does everything in its power to keep kids safe but does not “pack them up in bubble wrap,” instead giving campers knowledge and confidence to take calculated, well-communicated risks.
The program notes that campers must be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface in order to register, and that if a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, Avid4 Adventure may move the camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. Campers are strongly encouraged to use their own tuned bikes that fit well and are appropriate for dirt trails, including hand brakes, gears, and wider tires, with bike rentals available during registration. Campers have access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids and are transported to authentic local recreation areas and other beautiful recreation areas, with transportation provided to and from recreation areas.
Avid4 Adventure states that adventures are carefully customized so campers progress as their comfort and skill level grow, and that campers are grouped by grade range, either 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders. The organization describes its mission as believing in the transformative power of the outdoors, where kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking, and notes that programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17. It also states that campers learn solid skills, including how to use sound judgment and problem-solving in all aspects of their lives, and that programs help kids become more thoughtful, responsible risk takers and problem solvers.
Avid4 Adventure describes itself as a premium camp that is committed to paying educators a fair wage and notes that its summer camps are highly acclaimed. The organization is accredited by the American Camp Association, is a Certified B Corp, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. It operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which includes a promise to provide an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and states that if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. Avid4 Adventure also states that it organizes big adventures in beautiful recreation areas and that campers are transported to authentic local recreation areas they can keep coming back to explore.
Parent testimonials describe Avid4 Adventure as a favorite camp where one child learned to ride a bike without training wheels and later enjoyed stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and biking, and another parent notes that their child wanted to show them everything learned each day and describes the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with kids. Another testimonial states that the children had “the best time” at camp, still talked about it over a month later, and were active every day learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
