Blaine Youth Sports is a non-profit organization that began in 2018 with the purpose of providing youth sports opportunities to grades K-8. The mission of Blaine Youth Sports is to allow for as many athletes in Blaine to play and to develop youth at a young age so they can succeed at the high school level. Blaine Youth Sports has no affiliation with the Blaine School District.
Softball is for all skill levels and there are no tryouts, and 8U Softball uses a pitching machine or coaches to pitch from 40 feet with 60-foot bases and a baseball-size ball. In 10U Softball, players play fast-pitch with a 40-foot pitching distance and 60-foot bases, and if a batter is thrown 4 balls, a coach comes in to pitch instead of the player getting a walk. In 12U Softball, girls play fast-pitch with a 40-foot pitching distance and 60-foot bases, and girls may elect to play up a level but not down. If there are not enough girls to make a full 8U softball team, there will be a co-ed Rookies Team that participates in the Baseball League.
Baseball is for all skill levels, and if roster capacity is exceeded and another team cannot be added, players may be placed through tryouts or limited based on registration date. The Rookies Baseball Team is for kids in grades 1–2 and uses a pitching machine or coaches to pitch from 40 feet with 60-foot bases. The Minors Baseball Team is for kids in grades 3–4 in a Kid Pitch 40–60 league where players are not allowed to lead off but are allowed to steal, except they cannot steal home. The Majors Baseball Team is for kids in grades 5–6 in a Kid Pitch 40–60 league where players are not allowed to lead off but are allowed to steal all bases including home.
T-Ball is for all skill levels with no tryouts, is open to all boys and girls in Kindergarten, and teams are co-ed. The T-Ball program aims to have at least 4 teams and keep the program in Blaine with teams playing against other Blaine teams, and if there are 3 or fewer teams, they may have to travel to play other teams in the county.
Registration is closed for the 2026 K-2 Basketball Program. The K-2 Basketball program is for boys and girls in Kindergarten, First, and Second grade, is for all skill levels, and allows players to develop at their own pace, with no tryouts. K-2 Basketball teams are co-ed, and they will try to have an “equal-ish” number of boys and girls on each team, with space limited to 36 kids in each grade, 6 players per team, and a 3 vs 3 game format. K-2 Basketball practices focus on right and left hand dribbling, right and left hand layups, proper shooting form, chest and bounce passes, and proper defensive stance and movement. K-2 Basketball games are played on Saturdays in Blaine.
For softball, each child receives a uniform shirt and a hat or visor, and players need a glove, pants, and appropriate shoes, with helmets, bats, and catcher gear possibly supplied by Blaine Youth Sports if needed. For baseball and T-Ball, each child receives a uniform shirt and a hat, and players need a glove, pants, and appropriate shoes, with helmets, bats, and catcher gear possibly supplied if needed. For K-2 Basketball, each child receives a Blaine Youth Sports basketball tee shirt to keep and wear at games, and non-marking shoes or basketball shoes are required for the season.
Blaine Youth Sports relies on volunteer coaches and states they cannot run programs without them. For certain programs, every family must be willing to commit at least 1–2 hours in the concession stand during the season. The Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation District recognizes that not all families can afford to participate in local sports activities and helps families in need pay for equipment or seasonal program registration fees for youth recreational programs offered by Blaine-Birch Bay Park and Recreation or other athletic, dance, or recreational programs supported by the Boys & Girls Club.
