Master Shon opened his Tae Kwon Do dojang in 1998 and has been serving Federal Way since 1998, and he operates two dojangs in Federal Way. He began his Tae Kwon Do training in 1972 and has over 53 years of experience teaching martial arts to children and adults of all ages and ability levels. He holds a 6th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and a 4th degree Black Belt in Hapkido, has experience with other martial arts such as Aikido and Kendo, and was 5 times the Korean national champion in high school and college. He has a Physical Education degree from Myong Ji University in Seoul, became the Head Coach for the university's Tae Kwon Do team, and was presented with the President's Athletic Award from the Myong Ji University President in 1988. In 2002, Governor Gary Locke awarded Master Shon for his contribution to the 2002 Governor's Cup, and in 2015 he was selected by the Mayor Director of the World University Games in Kwang Ju, Korea for Team USA. He has also been a private instructor for Oscar winner Nicolas Cage and his family, comedian-actor David Allen Greer, and actor Michael Beech, and he served as part of Jackie Chan's stunt team.

The leadership team includes Master Shon, Master Phillips, Justin Shon, Bryan Shon, Jeffrey Arciaga, Parker McLain, EJ Arciaga, and JJ Arciaga. The program’s mission is to enhance the community and its citizens through the positive and personal development skills of its training, to provide a safe haven of positive energy and support for students' mental and physical growth, to provide inspiration for personal excellence through the example of black belts both in and out of the Tae Kwon Do school, and to ensure the long-term growth of the school and its staff by providing legendary student service. The academy states that self-defense, fitness, weight loss, children's safety, learning, and strength development may be some of the goals that can be achieved at Master Shon's.
