About
Olympia Junior Programs presents live theater experiences for children that include educational and entertaining programs in drama, music, science, and the interpretative arts. Performances take place during school hours and are specifically selected for ages 5 and up, with works often based on literature or history and productions that are technically more complex than a typical school assembly. Most seasons, the program offers three shows: one for students in first through sixth grade, one for students in first through third grade, and one for students in fourth through sixth grade, with professional companies contracted to present age-appropriate productions relevant to school curriculum.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Performances are scheduled in late winter and spring, with each show running for five days and each performance lasting about one hour
Olympia Junior Programs has been active in the Olympia community since 1940, serving elementary schools and working in cooperation with area schools for more than 80 years. It operates as a fully volunteer-driven, non-profit organization of community volunteers who work year-round behind the scenes and is supported in part by Inspire Olympia, a publicly funded program of the City of Olympia for non-profit organizations in the cultural arts. The mission of Olympia Junior Programs, Inc. is to present to elementary students educational and entertaining programs in drama, music, science, and the interpretative arts at minimal cost, support and augment arts education through the live theater experience, maintain the standards of such programs at the highest level, and develop audiences who will continue to enjoy and support diverse cultural programs in the community. Olympia Junior Programs is part of a national movement in children’s theater and is looking for individuals to join committees or serve on the Olympia Junior Programs Board.
