About

Olympia Junior Programs presents live theater performances in the fields of drama, music, science, and the interpretative arts. Two shows are offered for grades 1–3 and two shows for grades 3–6, with works often based on literature or history. Olympia Junior Programs contracts with professional companies for age-appropriate productions that are technically more complex than could be presented at an assembly in a school setting, and its shows are specifically selected for ages 5 and up.

• Ages: 5–11 years old
• Schedule: Performances in late winter and spring; each show runs for five days with one-hour performances at 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM on school days

Olympia Junior Programs has been active in the Olympia community since 1940, serving elementary schools and working in cooperation with area schools for more than 80 years to provide performances during school hours for students in grades 1–6. It is a fully volunteer-driven, non-profit organization of community volunteers doing year-round behind-the-scenes work, and it is part of a national movement in children’s theater. Olympia Junior Programs is supported in part by Inspire Olympia, a publicly funded program of the City of Olympia for non-profit organizations in the cultural arts, and it serves elementary students in Thurston County and nearby counties. The organization operates as a non-profit with Tax ID #91-6009314.

The stated mission of Olympia Junior Programs is to present to the elementary students of the community educational and entertaining programs in drama, music, science, and the interpretative arts at minimal cost; to support and augment arts education through the live theater experience; to maintain the standards of such programs at the highest level; and to develop audiences who will continue to enjoy and support diverse cultural programs in the community.
