The program offers day camps for campers aged 6–12 and overnight camps for campers aged 8–17. Counselor In Training (CIT) opportunities are available for teens and camp graduates aged 13–17, and CITs join day camp as volunteers to learn the ins and outs of being a camp counselor and hone leadership and camp skills. Each day camp week includes a field trip and activities tailored to the theme of the week. Day camp programs for campers ages 6–12 are also offered during Seattle Public School's Mid-Winter and Spring Breaks. After-School Programs in the fall and winter happen in the late afternoon once a week for 2 months.

Overnight camp registration happens through The Mountaineers website and begins in early February. Day camp registration happens through The Mountaineers website and begins with a lottery every January. Any remaining open day camp spots become available on February 1 at 9am, when open enrollment for Seattle Day Camp starts. Program registration can be competitive and camps fill up quickly. Applications for the CIT program open in February and are accepted on a rolling basis until the schedule is full. All campers need a complete, signed "Youth Information Form" and "Youth Programs Form" to register for camp. Scholarships are available for youth courses and are granted on a needs basis.

The mission of the organization running Seattle Summer Camps is helping people explore, conserve, learn about, and enjoy the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. It works to lobby legislators at local and national levels in an effort to protect and conserve natural landscapes, and it advocates as part of the Outdoor Alliance to make sure recreationists have a seat at the table. Volunteers perform trail and lookout maintenance to preserve the outdoor experience for the next generation. One participant shared, "I feel completely at home with The Mountaineers; everyone is so welcoming and warm."
