About

Seattle Reign Academy is a year-round competitive soccer club that offers year-round competitive soccer in a female-centered training and playing environment. Players take part in training that is exclusively focused on female players and participate in activities such as attending Seattle Reign FC home matches. Some players are invited to train with the Seattle Reign FC first team and learn from Seattle Reign FC first team players who work as assistant coaches.

Seattle Reign Academy states that it is built by women, for women, and is the only youth club in the region led by women. The club’s mission is to provide a female-centered training and playing environment designed to inspire and empower the next generation of female footballers, with a focus first on developing extraordinary people, not players. The Academy is led by Executive Director Amy Griffin, a 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup winner and U.S. Soccer “A” licensed coach, and its technical staff includes current and former professional female players, as well as coaches who have worked at the Division 1, professional, and international levels. The leadership team includes Amy Griffin (Executive Director), Nicci Wright (Director of Coaching), Aubrey Buehler (Pre-Academy Director), Annie Sittauer (Director of Operations), Darren Marshall (Manager of Recruitment), and Doug Sweeney Herrick (Goalkeeper Director). Staff credentials include extensive coaching experience at youth, professional, national team, and collegiate levels, with multiple coaches holding advanced U.S. Soccer licenses such as “A,” “B,” “C,” and “D,” as well as specialized roles like Goalkeeper Director and Coach Educator. Authentic connections to the Seattle Reign FC first team include Academy players receiving tickets to Seattle Reign FC home matches, opportunities for Academy players to be invited to train with the first team, and several Seattle Reign FC first team players working as assistant coaches in the Academy. The club states that it has the opportunity and obligation to grow the women’s game in the Pacific Northwest, and its environment is crafted specifically for female players to provide a foundation that supports the growth of the next generation of female leaders on and off the pitch.
