About
Seattle Young Engineers offers hands-on STEAM projects using LEGO Engineering and LEGO Robotics, where students use LEGO Bricks to build specially designed models, play games, and explore engineering, architecture, robotics, and more. The program includes after-school classes, summer camps, birthday parties, and After School Enrichment Programs that use Problem Based Learning, Product Based Learning, and Project Based Learning. Camps and classes feature activities such as fun building challenges, Candyland Camp with multiple LEGO models, candy-related experiments, making some candies, learning about soil with edible soil layers, Lego Science Camp with about 7–8 technic LEGO models, Lego Architecture Camp, Famous Scientists, and Super Hero Camp with daily projects and missions.
• Ages: 6–12 years old
• Schedule: Full day camps for incoming Grades 1–3, 4–6, and 4–7 run 9am–4pm, with optional Extended Care from 4pm–5pm
• Price: LEGO Engineering Grades 1–3: $575/week; LEGO Engineering Grades 4–6: $575/week; LEGO Robotics Grades 4–7: $725/week; Extended Care: $75/week (4pm–5pm)
Seattle Young Engineers is led by owner Ruchita Tulsyan. Students learn from passionate, trained instructors, including an owner with a Math and Computer Science degree, who are bonded and insured, trained on licensed e² Young Engineers programs and LEGO products, and who meet Seattle Public School background check requirements. Young Engineers is a global education company that uses LEGO building blocks to introduce children to theoretical and practical aspects in STEM, with curricula that combine education and entertainment in an “edutainment” method, use Spiral Learning and PBL methods, and rely on exclusive kits made solely for Young Engineers that allow exclusive models. The programs are continuously developed and improved, and no online classes are offered.
Camps and classes may include character-building activities related to “Compassion” (Empathy + Action = Compassion) and a social-emotional learning topic of the week focused on growth mindset, where students learn about their own power of leadership, change, and growth mindset. In Famous Scientists sessions, students learn about five different scientists and their contributions, and in architecture sessions they learn about famous architecture buildings in the world and build models using LEGO, paper, cardboard, spaghetti, and marshmallows. All edible products used in activities are nut free.
After School Enrichment Programs at designated schools operate as usual. Testimonials from parents report that children loved the classes, wanted new sessions to start as soon as possible, and continued with the program, including comments from parents such as “My child loves the program and is continuing!” and “This is by far the best yet.” Seattle Young Engineers is described as the “#1 STEM learning program in Seattle!!!”
