About
NOAA Science Camp offers fun, hands-on activities that explore the mysteries of oceans and the atmosphere. Students entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade take part in science-learning opportunities that include programs such as the virtual week-long session “Oceans of Change,” which focused on the work NOAA scientists do to study the impacts of a changing climate, and the “Whale of a Time” program, which highlights tools NOAA scientists use to study marine mammals. Science Camp is currently full, and families are directed to sign up for the wait list.
• Ages: 11–13 years old
• Schedule: Week-long session; the 2025 session will be July 14–18.
NOAA Science Camp offers hands-on science-learning opportunities for both middle and high school students, although the high school junior leadership program will not be offered in 2025. In 2021, NOAA Science Camp offered a “Summer of Virtual Fun” with archived webinars and activities. The program is connected with Washington Sea Grant, whose interim director Kate Litle received the 2025 Washington Governor’s Outstanding Leadership Award. A partnership between the Swinomish Tribe and Washington Sea Grant led to a model of NOAA Science Camp that is identified as successful and replicable. Maile Sullivan serves as Education Specialist for the program.
