Camp Code for Girls is a free week-long program that makes computer programming fun and accessible for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade girls, and it strives to help campers see themselves as creators, not just consumers, of technology. Campers gain hands-on experience in coding, learn how to solve real-world problems, and build mobile apps. Instructors and guest speakers are all accomplished tech professionals, and the program introduces campers to opportunities in technology fields including programming, engineering, and cybersecurity. The program states that it helps campers build confidence, make friends, and develop skills for the future. Fast Enterprises covers the full cost of camp, alumni can volunteer as instructor assistants in future camps, and alumni can apply for a college scholarship for degrees in technology fields. The program welcomes all campers who identify as girls or gender non-conforming.

FAST partners with the Girl Scouts Louisiana East, the Girl Scouts of Colorado, and Eastern Washington University to offer Camp Code for Girls.

Parent and camper feedback includes comments that a camper “loved it sooooo much and it was the highlight of my summer” and that another camper described it as “an exceptional experience.” Parents report that their daughters enjoyed making friends in a diverse space and feeling the energy and enthusiasm from the instructors. One parent shared that their daughter said her “sense of wonder has been restored” because “coding isn’t scary anymore,” and another noted that their daughter went from not wanting to attend to crying at the end of the last day because she did not want camp to be over.
