Dance Company at the YMCA is a performance-based dance company where dancers take part in dance, technical training, artistic exploration, and live performance opportunities. Company members perform at events throughout the Pacific Northwest and are expected to attend regular classes, rehearsals, and performances. The program emphasizes a supportive, team-focused environment that fosters trust and connection and focuses on inspiring confidence and expression through the art of dance.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
The Y’s Dance Company is designed to inspire, challenge, and empower young dancers through technical training, artistic exploration, and meaningful community connection. Auditions are held annually and are open to all students 8 years and older who are at level Beginner 2 and up. The company has four levels: Pre-Company for ages 8–12, Junior Company for ages 10–14, Apprentice Company for ages 12–16, and Senior Company for ages 14–18. Pre-Company dancers have a weekly commitment of 2 classes plus rehearsals, Junior Company dancers have 3 classes plus rehearsals, and both Apprentice and Senior Company dancers have 6 classes plus rehearsals. Senior Company dancers mentor younger members and serve as ambassadors. Dancers share their love of movement with the community throughout the year and represent the YMCA and the community at events throughout the Pacific Northwest. The program is led by Arts Directors Michelle Wells and Kirsten Gilmore.
