About
Tacoma Little Theatre Education Programs offers theatre classes, drama camps, stage productions, after-school theatre classes, homeschool theatre classes, improv classes, and dance classes. The program also offers Club TLT activities such as audition skills, writing and directing a first play, and improv skills, along with workshops and master classes in performance, direction, design, stage management, and play writing. In addition, there are winter, spring, and summer break camps and Students On Stage outreach programs that bring musical and non-musical options to schools.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: After-school and homeschool classes run in six-week sessions, with additional evening or weekend improv options and school break camps that run from one to four weeks
• Price: The minimum, nonrefundable fee for enrollment is $50, and a $35.00 service charge is added to any check returned for insufficient funds
Courses and camps are created to build confidence, team work, collaboration, self esteem, communication, innovative thinking and more. Classes are designed to enhance curriculums of study for students attending public or private schools and those who are homeschooled. After-School @ TLT and Homeschool @ TLT classes culminate in fully staged productions for friends and family, and drama camps and stage productions offer additional avenues for performance. Winter Break Camp runs most Mondays–Thursdays from 9:00am–4:00pm with one to two performances the last weekend, Spring Break Camp runs Monday–Friday 9:00am–4:00pm with a fully staged musical on the weekend, and Summer Break Camps run four weeks, Monday–Friday 9:00am–4:00pm with an in-depth musical production and technical theater experience. In 2023, Spring Break Camp also includes a skills camp focused on theater workshop skill building without putting on a play.
Club TLT is a year-round education program dedicated to middle and high school students ages 13–19, and offers special events and activities that include attending performances and volunteering at Tacoma Little Theatre. Students On Stage is an outreach program designed to bring the entire educational experience to schools and to bring the importance and value of art into students’ learning. Some scholarship funding is available through an online scholarship application, and registrations are processed in the order received, with either full payment or the $50 registration fee required to secure a spot. Registrations are accepted until a class is full or until the end of the first week of class, and the refund policy includes a tuition refund minus a $50 cancellation fee if a student withdraws more than 14 days before the start, up to half tuition if canceling within 14 days, and no refunds after the first class or day.
Instructors in Tacoma Little Theatre Education Programs are trained theatre artists with a variety of experiences in the theatre industry, provide thorough curriculums, and must pass an extensive background check required by Tacoma Little Theatre. Tacoma Little Theatre is a certified Community Based Instructor (CBI). TLT’s mission and vision for these theatre classes are to help students of all ages grow to their full potential as performers and as people, to bring together students in the community to learn and practice performance art skills and techniques while building life skills, and to enrich the community with quality, live theater experiences.
