The club is described as central Washington's premier Junior Olympic Volleyball program and is one of the oldest junior volleyball clubs in the Northwest. It is organized as a self-sustaining, non-profit youth sports organization and is registered as a participating member of USA Volleyball, following the guidelines of the junior division of USA Volleyball, the USAV Coaching Accreditation Program, the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and the WIAA.

In June 1996, Team Yakima was presented the Distinguished Service to Junior Volleyball award at the 800-team Volleyball Festival in Sacramento, California. The club has represented Washington State in the Can-Am Championships and has won this international competition several times, and it has actively participated in nearly all of the annual Volleyball Festival tournaments since they were first held in 1983. Many parents and community volunteers donate time and effort to help the club function effectively. One parent testimonial describes Team Yakima as an “amazing non-profit volleyball program working with kids in the Yakima Valley for 40 years,” noting boys and girls from all age levels and teams at multiple skill levels, and expressing appreciation for the level of coaches and a dedicated volunteer board.
