About
Hazelmade Art Studio offers summer art camps, daytime programs, afterschool programs, and one-time art making events. The studio also hosts birthdays, holiday celebrations, group social activities, fundraisers, home-school art activities, afterschool art clubs, and special events.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
Hazelmade Art Studio opened in the summer of 2019 and operated for two years out of a home art studio and backyard before moving into a studio space on College Ave. in Downtown Appleton in 2022 and then into a new space on Richmond Street in 2023. Hazelmade Art Studio is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization as of 2024. The leadership team includes Karen Ebben as President/Owner and lead instructor, Sara as Vice President, and Julia as Secretary. Karen is a UW Madison graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, a Master’s degree in Education, and 27 years of public school teaching experience. Sara is a retired art teacher with 36 years of teaching experience and holds Bachelor’s degrees in Art Education and Art Therapy from Mount Mary University, along with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Julia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and has 18 years of experience teaching in public schools with students who qualified for special education supports and programs.
Hazelmade’s mission is to be a place for artists of all ages to imagine, create, play, and be inspired, with an emphasis on a connected and open-minded atmosphere where kids feel nurtured, supported, and inspired. Every camp is designed to immerse participants in multi-step projects that use diverse materials and techniques. Hazelmade offers daytime and afterschool programs and one-time art making events for school-aged children, and with the Richmond Street space has expanded to home-school art activities, afterschool art clubs, and special events. Hazelmade Art Studio has a stated vision for community involvement and a mission to serve the community and grow its impact and creative space, and Julia’s current work includes developing Functional English programs for non-English speaking neighbors with refugee and immigrant status.
