The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin Mentoring Program is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. The organization states that it partners with parents and guardians, volunteers, and others in the community and holds itself accountable for each child in the program achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, better relationships, avoidance of risky behaviors, and educational success. The leadership team includes Travis Austad, CEO; Cherity Nelson, Operations Director; Gretta Staff, Program Director; Sara Hoyt, Enrollment Specialist; Kathy Gjesfjeld, Match Support Specialist; Leah Thissen, Match Support Specialist; and Kelly Culshaw, Match Support Specialist.

The program notes that its core volunteer need is more mentors, especially Big Brothers, and that there are many ways to be involved, including making a donation, becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, enrolling a child, volunteering on a committee, or other options. A Janet E. Proctor Scholarship is awarded to a former “Little” who is enrolled at an accredited institution of higher education, and the scholarship award is a minimum of $1000. According to a Harris Interactive Survey of Former Littles, 81% agreed their Big changed their perspective on what they thought possible in life.
