About
Next Step Dance Studio offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, and acro. Classes are taught by instructors who bring college training and professional experience in dance and related fields.
• Ages: 18 months–18 years old
Next Step Dance Studio was founded in 1996, and in 2023 it became part of The Academy of Performing Arts, which was established in 2005. The studio is part of The Academy of Performing Arts performing arts family and has been a cornerstone of the Franklin community for nearly three decades. Next Step dancers have earned recognition for their talent, dedication, and academic achievements, including college scholarships.
The teaching staff includes a general manager/owner, office and dance managers, front desk staff, and multiple dance teachers. Instructors include Miss Jacq, who received her BA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and who attended the Dance Education Laboratory Summer Institute in New York City while continuing her training at Broadway Dance Center, Gibney Dance, and Steps on Broadway. She is a member of the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, Dance Masters of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Dance Council, and the National Dance Education Organization. Other instructors include Miss Alyssa, who majored in Musical Theatre with a minor in Dance at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse; Miss Ellen, who graduated from UW–Stevens Point in 2014 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and Dance; Mrs. Kristina, who graduated from UW–Milwaukee with a dance major; and Miss Audrey, who will graduate from UW–Milwaukee in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance.
The Next Step Dance Studio facility features three state-of-the-art studios with floating floors, a welcoming lobby with observation windows, and a boutique stocked with dance apparel and shoes. The studio’s mission is to provide students with individual attention and learning opportunities, building self-esteem and confidence as they work on their dance skills.
Parents report that their children enjoy the teachers and dancing at Next Step Dance Studio, and they describe the ambience and dance quality positively. One parent notes that the studio has provided a unique experience for two daughters with different needs, and another parent shares that a child in her ninth year at the studio has continued to grow in love and technique for dance and in confidence in many areas of life.
