Next Step Dance Studio was founded in 1996 and has been part of the Franklin community for nearly three decades. In 2023, The Academy of Performing Arts, established in 2005, took ownership of Next Step Dance Studio and it is now part of The Academy of Performing Arts performing arts family. The studio’s facility includes three state-of-the-art studios with floating floors, a welcoming lobby with observation windows, and a boutique stocked with dance apparel and shoes.
Next Step Dance Studio’s mission is to provide students with individual attention and learning opportunities, building self-esteem and confidence as they work on their dance skills. The mission also states that teachers share their love of dance with students and that the dedication, work ethic, and discipline developed in the dance studio are viewed as important in all aspects of life.
The leadership team includes founder Miss Terri Sinani, with Jamie Cook serving as General Manager/Owner overseeing all locations for both Next Step Dance Studio and The Academy of Performing Arts. Anna is Office Manager, Jacq is Dance Manager, and Sophia and Najwa work at the front desk. Instructors bring college training and professional experience to their teaching. Miss Jacq received her BA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, attended the Dance Education Laboratory Summer Institute in New York City, and continued training at Broadway Dance Center, Gibney Dance, and Steps on Broadway. She is a member of the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, Dance Masters of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Dance Council, and the National Dance Education Organization. Miss Alyssa majored in Musical Theatre with a minor in Dance at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Miss Ellen graduated from UW–Stevens Point in 2014 with a degree in Early Childhood Education and Dance. Miss Audrey will graduate from UW–Milwaukee in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. Miss Laura graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee with a BS in Early Childhood Education and completed her Master’s in Education in 2020.
Parent feedback includes comments that families “love Next Step Dance Studio” and mention starting in a Parent & Tot toddler class and moving into Twinkle Toes I, with teachers and assistants described as “amazing.” Another parent describes a season at Next Step Dance Studio and with Miss Jacq, noting that their shy daughter became more comfortable entering class and interacting with friends over time. Additional feedback states that teachers are kind and patient, and that the facility is described as clean and welcoming.
