For over 136 years, the YMCA of the Fox Cities has been a unifying force in the Fox Valley, with local roots going back to 1887 when Frank Harwood and other community leaders started the YMCA in Appleton after the YMCA began in 1844 with George Williams. The stated mission is to put Christian principles into practice by promoting youth, adult and family activities that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA of the Fox Cities notes that thousands of volunteers, donors, leaders and partners across the country are involved through the Y. YMCA360 offers members a variety of virtual on-demand and live options for the family, and the association now offers three 24/7 Wellness Centers. All YMCA of the Fox Cities locations will be closed on Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day, and they observe specific holiday hours on Thanksgiving Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and January 15, 2026. On days when the Ys are closed or close early, 24/7 access is available at Apple Creek YMCA, Fox West YMCA, and Heart of the Valley YMCA.
