About
Danceworks Youth Dance Programs include dance and performing arts activities such as contemporary technique, jazz technique, tap, ballroom, and youth and adult classes. The programs also connect with Danceworks PRO Intensive, School Day Off Workshops in winter, and performances like “That’s Life” by Danceworks Intergenerational Performance Company. Additional offerings connected to the organization include adult dance or fitness classes, Art for MS (Multiple Sclerosis), Somatic and Calming Contemporary Inspired Dance, and Singing and Music workshops.
• Schedule: Danceworks PRO Intensive runs for six days from June 9–13, 2026, and adult classes are ongoing. Art for MS workshops, including Somatic and Calming Contemporary Inspired Dance and Singing and Music at MYAC, take place from 6:30–7:30pm on the first and third Mondays from January 26–April 27, with specific dates listed as February 23, March 9, and March 23. All listed workshops are free and take place from 6:30–7:30pm.
• Price: Danceworks PRO Intensive early bird tuition is $400, and regular tuition is $500. Tickets for “That’s Life” at Ovation Communities cost $13, including ticket processing fees. The first adult class costs $5.

Its mission is to enhance joy, health and creativity by engaging the community through dance, with a vision to be a source for arts education and community collaborations and a purpose to inspire lifelong interest and participation in the arts. Danceworks, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, a proud partner of Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, and a proud member of United Performing Arts Fund. Danceworks Intergenerational Performance Company presents works at Ovation Communities, and Art for MS workshops are open to people with Multiple Sclerosis and their friends and family.
Teaching staff connected with the organization include Richard Ashworth, who received a BFA in Dance from the University at Buffalo in June 2007 and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in May 2021. Melissa Anderson is certified by the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) and received the 2024 Chicago National Association of Dance Masters’ Artistic Achievement Award. Courtney Dorzok graduated from UW–Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance, has a minor in early adolescent studies, and received Early Education Licenses for ages K3–3rd grade. Jessica Fastabend received her degree in education from Alverno College.
Unique features connected with Danceworks include free Art for MS workshops for people with Multiple Sclerosis and their friends and family, the Danceworks PRO Intensive as a professional training experience for collegiate through professional-level dancers, and an Intergenerational Performance Company presenting works drawn from real life across generations. The organization also offers a first adult class at $5, Danceworks merchandise through an online store, and School Day Off Workshops during school days off in winter. One shared testimonial from a dancer states that “your uniqueness is your power—never shrink yourself to fit someone else’s idea of what a dancer should be,” and describes dancing as making them feel “alive, connected, and purposeful” and hoping people feel “moved, seen, and inspired to believe in what’s possible.”
