Discovery World Educational Programs and Camps are part of a broader organization whose mission statement is that Discovery World exists to inspire generations to discover the wonders of science and leverages the powers of science to encourage participants to embark on their own path to discovery. The organization’s leadership team includes John Emmerich (President & CEO), Nicole Bray (CFO), Carl Schoettel (COO), Paul Mech (Director of Education), Kimberly Reyes (Director of Development), Shannon Atwood (Vice President of Exhibits & Experiences), Denver Scheil (Director of Facility), and Paul Fladten (Director of Marketing & Communications). Discovery World’s history includes an original home in the basement of a Boys & Girls Club on the East Side of Milwaukee, later moves to the Central Branch of the Milwaukee Public Library and a shared building with the Milwaukee Public Museum, and the construction of a facility on Lake Michigan’s shoreline in 2006 under the guidance of Michael Cudahy. Its community involvement includes expansive learning programs, onsite field trips, summer camps, and educational outreach initiatives that bring science learning to classrooms and communities through partnerships, comprehensive programs, and ongoing reflection. The broader organization includes Wisconsin’s premier science museum with hands-on interactive exhibits, immersive educational experiences, and Wisconsin’s largest aquarium, the Reiman Aquarium, which features a Caribbean trek where visitors can travel alongside sharks. Many experiences are tailored for early learners with tiny hands and big imaginations and focus on the power of play to inspire a love for learning.
