About
Zoo Classes & Camps includes activities such as touring the Milwaukee County Zoo from a stroller, puppet play, sign language, and songs. Participants may take part in a Stroller Safari, sing and rhyme, use a flashlight to explore the bat cave, practice sleeping upside down, make a bat costume with wings, tour the Zoo to visit exhibits, and design a miniature exhibit.
• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Fall Zoo Class member registration begins on July 22 at 9 a.m., and non-member registration begins on July 29 at 9 a.m.; examples of session lengths include 1-hour and 1.5-hour classes, half-day and one-day camps, weeklong camps, and one-day classes.
The program includes Stroller Safari for infants through age 2 and their grown-ups, classes for 2- and 3-year-olds with an accompanying grown-up, and classes for children ages 4 and 5 with a grown-up or solo. It also includes classes that go deeper into animal behavior, zoo careers, ecosystems, and conservation concepts for ages 6–15, as well as family classes with multiple generations of family and friends. Family classes end with a project or action that supports conservation efforts. Offerings include Spring & Fall Zoo Classes throughout the year, Summer Zoo Camps for ages 4–15 ranging from single-day to weeklong camp experiences, Zoo Classes during the summer months for infants, ages 2–5 and adults, and half-day classes on weekends for school-aged children, teens, and families. Examples of specific sessions include Stroller Safari: Stay and Play Trunks, Tongues & Toes as a spring 1-hour class for ages 0–2, Hangin’ Out with Bats as a fall 1.5-hour class for age 3, Junior Zookeeper as a summer half-day camp for ages 4–5, Young Conservationists: Backyard and Beyond! as a summer weeklong camp for ages 6–7, Animals of the Amazon as a spring one-day class for ages 6–9, and Careers: Exhibit Design as a summer one-day camp for ages 10–12. The financial aid application period is open for 2026 Zoo Classes & Camps.
The Zoological Society of Milwaukee states that it works to conserve wildlife and the environment, educate the community through programs, and support the Milwaukee County Zoo. It partners with the Milwaukee County Zoo to create and host special events throughout the year for members, zoo visitors, and the community.
Parents and caregivers have shared feedback such as, “Every class is an adventure that our son loves! I am always impressed that the class holds his attention, and he leaves sharing what he has learned with anyone who will listen,” and, “We have been going to Zoo Classes for about 10 years now and my kids get so excited every time we register for the next ones!” Other comments include, “The kids were fully engaged in the activities the entire time because of the great teachers,” “We absolutely love every single Zoo Class we have attended. My 3-year-old asks every weekend if there is a class we can go to,” and, “My kids love their experiences at Zoo Class. My kids are very different but these classes appeal to them both because they are designed for many different learning styles and personalities.”
