German School of Madison offers German language classes for children and adults. The program includes social activities for children and families, as well as family-friendly cultural events for German-speaking families.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekly Saturday morning classes throughout the school year, generally in line with the MMSD calendar, with no classes during winter break or spring break
• Price: Classes are described as affordable; classes for children 6 years (1st grade) and older include 4,050 minutes of instruction per academic year, at about $12 for 60 minutes of instruction
German School of Madison is a parent-founded non-profit organization (501(c)(3)) that offers German language classes for young people with and without prior knowledge of German, as well as adults. The program organizes preschool classes and places children in classes determined by grade level or age, with children of more than two grade levels not grouped in the same class. Classes start about a month after public schools and typically finish by Memorial Day, and the program offers scholarships. Teachers are native or near-native speakers with advanced degrees and extensive teaching experience. The mission of the German School of Madison is to welcome families from all backgrounds and make German language classes accessible to all children in the local community. There is also a listserv for German-speaking families in the Madison area.
