About

Camp Anokijig offers summer programs that include time in cabins or platform tents, shared meals in Western Lodge, and use of facilities such as the RC Vance Nature Center, Trading Post, and Foxwell Lodge Craft facility Outdoor Education and Digital Photo Lab. Campers stay in multiple cabins and lodges or in large canvas platform tents that each have eight beds and mattresses, grouped around campfire areas with nearby bathroom buildings with running water. Western Lodge, built in 1949 and dedicated by Western Publishing, serves as the center of camp with a large fireplace, PA system, movie screen, VCR, DVD, indoor heating, meeting space, offices, and a meal seating capacity of 425.

• Ages: 7–16 years old
• Schedule: Campers can come for four days, one week, two weeks, or for up to nine weeks of summer fun.

Camp Anokijig was founded in 1926 by a group of community leaders with a vision for the future and has been recognized for excellence in camping, youth service, and character development. Anokijig is a Native American word meaning “We Serve,” and approximately 11,000 guests experience the Spirit of Anokijig every year. The mission of Anokijig is to provide youth and families with an outdoor setting and community that is based on respectful values and dedicated to the development of positive life styles while learning new skills, experiencing personal growth, having outrageous fun, and developing an appreciation for the natural environment.

Parents have reported that their children returned with increased confidence, independence, and a sense of responsibility, and several noted that their children wanted to return to camp. Campers have described Camp Anokijig as “the coolest camp on the planet,” “a great camp with good food and great activities,” and “the best time I’ve ever had where you meet tons of great people.” Multiple parents and campers have commented on the fun experiences, the counselors, the other campers, the food, and the wide range of activities, with one camper summing it up as simply, “WOW!”
