In 1844, George Williams started the YMCA, and in 1887, Frank Harwood and other prominent community leaders started the YMCA in Appleton. The YMCA’s stated mission is to put Christian principles into practice by promoting youth, adult and family activities that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit social services organization dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Outagamie County partners with the YMCA to bring a childcare center to the Brewster Street campus.
