About
The Caring Center & Verona Montessori House offers traditional early childhood programs, a Montessori school program, and a separate school-age program called CC’s Clubhouse. Verona Montessori House provides Montessori school programming for a mixed-age group of 3- to 5-year-olds, with classes available in the mornings or extended to full days. The program also includes Camp CC, an all-day summer program for school-age children.
• Ages: 2–11 years old
• Schedule: Building and preschool hours generally run Monday–Friday, 6:30am–5:15pm, with additional pre-K, Montessori, and school-age options at set times
The Caring Center has been a part of the Verona community for over 50 years, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 1992, its 40th in 2012, and marking over 50 years in June 2022. In 1986, it began a separate school-age program for children from first through fifth grade, and in fall 2007 it added Verona Montessori House and introduced Montessori school programming. In fall 2012, The Caring Center opened its doors to a collaborative pre-K program in partnership with the Verona Area School District and participated in the district’s planning process for that program.
The program’s campus includes three buildings, with CC’s Clubhouse for school-age children located upstairs in the back building, which has a game room and a quiet room for reading, homework, or peaceful time. The school-age program space was renovated and named CC’s Clubhouse in spring 2011, and it includes an iMac and iPad computer lab and an art center. A completely new child care center was constructed behind the original structure in 1987, and in 2015 the child care classroom for 2- and 3-year-olds was remodeled with a removed dividing wall, new flooring, and new lighting, along with an expanded parking lot adjacent to the round building.
The Caring Center offers traditional programs and pre-K for children ages 2–5, a Two-Three’s program for 2- or 3-year-olds learning to be away from family at preschool, a Three-Four’s program for 3- and early 4-year-olds, and a pre-K program where children develop greater independence and self-help skills and test their boundaries. Verona Montessori House serves children ages 3–5 in a mixed-age Montessori setting, and CC’s Clubhouse serves children in grades K–5, including the Camp CC all-day summer program. The Caring Center serves children from age two through 5th grade and is currently unable to accept any new enrollees, using a waitlist.
The Caring Center was founded by Thelma Peters, a third-grade teacher from Verona, and Diane Peters, then a senior education major at the University of Wisconsin. Diane Peters later became company president and, along with Jim Peters, owned and operated the program until their retirement in January 2019, when ownership was transferred to Michael Thomas and his family. Ms. Regina has been a staff member since 1987 and was named Administrator/Director in spring 1994, while Ms. Sheny became Office Manager/Human Resources in 2016 and Ms. Linda became Administrative Assistant in winter 2017 after serving as a substitute since 2014. The Caring Center states that it provides a clean, safe, and happy environment for every child entrusted to it and strives to support the overall growth, development, and education of each child in its care.
