About

Central Wisconsin Children’s Theatre offers drama camps, a Superhero Summer Drama Camp, and a Summer Theatre Workshop for Teens called “The Norse Mythology Ragnasplosion.” Participants produce and perform in plays and musicals as part of the program’s activities.

• Ages: 9–18 years old
• Schedule: Superhero Summer Drama Camp runs July 13–17, and the Summer Theatre Workshop for Teens – The Norse Mythology Ragnasplosion runs August 3–7

Central Wisconsin Children’s Theatre was formed in 1979 by the merger of Wausau Children’s Theatre and The Merry Pipers. CWCT does 4–5 main stage shows, including plays and musicals, each season from July through June, and shows generally rehearse for 6–8 weeks before performances. CWCT holds drama camps during the summer and has other opportunities for area youth to be involved in programming throughout the year. Over the years, hundreds of shows have been produced by thousands of children in Wausau and the surrounding communities of Central Wisconsin. Everyone who signs up for The Norse Mythology Ragnasplosion camp is guaranteed a role, and students in this camp are in charge of the set, props, and costumes. CWCT states that it is the only public theatre in their area offering theatre consistently for and by children and uses the motto “No Stage is Too Big.” CWCT’s mission statement says it is dedicated to growth and educational opportunities for area youth through theatre arts and that it provides a positive environment where they learn theatre skills, empathy, and teamwork while working on and performing in plays, musicals, and related activities.
