About
Camp Timberlane for Boys offers water activities on Lake Towanda, land and traditional activities, and a crafts program. The program also includes adventure programs such as canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing, and a ski program. Each summer, more than 80% of campers return from the prior summer.
• Ages: 8–16 years old
• Schedule: Camp sessions run 4 or 8 weeks, with trips that last from 3–12 days long.
Each year, 160 boys from over 30 cities across the United States attend Camp Timberlane for Boys in a genuinely non-competitive environment. Each summer, the camp sends out over 40 canoeing, backpacking, and rock climbing trips to sites in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and Canada, with a focus on enjoying nature while making choices to protect and preserve the environment and its inhabitants. Cabin groups consist of 8–12 campers who are all going into the same grade level in school, and each cabin has 3 or 4 counselors.
Camp Timberlane for Boys celebrated its 60th summer of camping fun and friendship in 2020. The camp has roughly 85 staff members, many of whom are returning from prior summers and many of whom were campers who grew up through the camp’s leadership training program. Owner and Director Sam Kahn has spent over 20 summers at Timberlane, grew up as a Timberlane camper, and previously worked as a middle school math teacher. The leadership team includes Assistant Directors who are described as dedicated, compassionate professionals with decades of Timberlane experience, and the camp uses a meticulous and comprehensive recruiting and selection process for new counselors and trip leaders, along with training and support for staff.
Parent testimonials describe campers coming home more confident, independent, and grounded, and refer to Camp Timberlane as a safe and meaningful place where boys can grow into caring young men. Parents also describe the camp as a place where boys can unplug from technology, feel supported and comfortable with both adults and peers, and form relationships with campers and counselors of different ages. Several parents note that their sons look forward to returning each year, that Timberlane stories are a daily topic at home, and that they have complete trust in the staff and the care given to their children.
